When God asks Jacob's name, Jacob must claim his reputation. Yes, he is the deceiver. Yes, he is the grabber. Yes, he is the one who cheated his brother, deceived his father, and cheated his uncle and now it has all caught up with him. He has sent everyone he loved and all his possession ahead and he struggles alone all night with a stranger. He is claimed, he is named, and he is maimed.
